Rebecca Roth

Rebecca is a red-haired former mercenary living on a small hill near Erische, publicly introduced as Shello Roth's wife though she is, in truth, his daughter. Calm, capable, and knowledgeable about the world, she helps Jirou understand monsters, dungeons, and the system of blessings and vocations. Her composed manner and quiet strength reflect the combat training she once shared with Shello.

Overview

"Help someone only when the person themself desires to be helped first. Otherwise, even well-intentioned efforts will only serve as self-satisfaction."

Rebecca Roth is a former mercenary operating under the guise of the wife of hunter Shello Roth. In reality, Shello is her father, and they maintain this deception as a cover for their past. She is a sharp, observant, and formidable woman who acts as a primary guide, protector, and now trusted ally for the otherworlder, Jirou Ayase. Her character is defined by a blend of pragmatic wisdom, genuine empathy, a troubled past, and a deep understanding of the spiritual and social mechanics of her world.

Biographical Information

Rebecca Roth is a citizen of the Hanouku Empire, residing in the territory of the free city Erische. Her public occupation is that of a hunter's wife and assistant, a carefully maintained cover for her true past as a member of the notable mercenary group 『Scarlet Wedge』 alongside her father, Shello. The group disbanded after the death of its leader, Isaac. She now lives secluded with her father, having previously considered becoming a nun and swearing off love and marriage. Her alignment is best described as Lawful Neutral, as her actions are guided by a mix of genuine compassion, unwavering familial loyalty, and a pragmatic adherence to the spiritual "Guidance" system of her world.

Physical Description

Rebecca possesses a striking and powerful physique that betrays her martial history. She stands exceptionally tall at approximately 180 cm, with an athletic build honed by combat and labor. Her most vibrant feature is her mane of red hair, which she typically wears tied back in a practical ponytail, though she lets it down and styles it elaborately for formal events.

She has perceptive, light brown eyes the color of amber, which contrast sharply with her vibrant hair. For formal occasions, she wears expertly applied makeup, including a striking red lipstick that enhances her sensual and confident presence. Her typical attire consists of practical casual wear suitable for life on the outskirts.

Personality & Psychology

Rebecca's core motivation is the protection of the secluded life she has built with her father, though this is beginning to change. She is highly observant, perceptive, and possesses a sharp, analytical mind, often serving as the voice of reason and caution.

While pragmatic, she demonstrates deep empathy and emotional intelligence. She is fiercely protective and generous. Her worldview is deeply integrated with her world's spiritual framework. She has a "pampering" or "elder sister" type demeanor, looking after Jirou, but she is not afraid to physically correct him when he behaves inappropriately.

She is bold and fearless, but also carries the emotional weight of her past, having been deeply affected by the death of her former leader, Isaac. She is knowledgeable about the world's social hierarchies, racial dynamics, and customs. A new, more relaxed and "cute" side emerges when she drinks alcohol, though she remains composed. She is also a surprisingly heavy eater. She is a terrible actress when put on the spot in social skits, becoming flustered and freezing up, which contrasts sharply with her 'Scout' vocation.

Skills & Abilities

  • Dual Vocation - Knight & Scout: A rare and contradictory combination of vocations. The Knight vocation implies chivalric virtues like bravery and loyalty, while the Scout vocation involves espionage, spying, and information gathering. This internal conflict made her "unsuitable to be a scout."
  • Combat Proficiency & Intimidation: As a former elite mercenary, she is a highly skilled combatant.
  • Horsemanship: An experienced and capable rider, which she teaches to others.
  • Literacy: Is able to read the ancient script on the magic map/quest sheet and restaurant menus for the group.
  • Leadership & Tactics: Has knowledge of military tactics and group management from her time in the Scarlet Wedge, making her a qualified candidate to lead Jirou's knight order.
  • Information Gathering & Social Networking: Exceptionally skilled at extracting information from various sources, a skill from her Scout vocation.
  • Social & Emotional Intelligence: Able to read people and understand unspoken emotions, though this fails her in deliberate acting roles.

Equipment & Possessions

  • Formal Mercenary Uniform: A magnificent and expensive-looking matching frock coat from her time in the Scarlet Wedge.
  • The Ceremonial Dagger: Her most prized possession from her mercenary leader, Isaac.
  • Garnet Ring: A gift from Jirou, featuring a large garnet in an intricately carved silver and gold setting. She treasures it deeply.
  • Lace Handkerchief: A gift from Jirou, given without his knowledge of its cultural significance as a token of courtship. She accepted it knowingly.
  • Spirit Stone: A blue stone awarded by a spirit for completing her "Guidance."

Relationship

Shello Roth: Her father and partner in deception. Their bond is the core of her character. She often acts as the calm, reasoning counterbalance to his more impulsive and optimistic nature. Shello is deeply grateful to Jirou for bringing joy back into Rebecca's life.

Jirou Ayase: Her relationship with Jirou has deepened into a strong, trusting, and complex bond. She is his primary confidante, having learned the truth about his otherworldly origin and accepting it without hesitation. She values their connection as one fated by "Guidance." She accepted his gift of a garnet ring and, later, a lace handkerchief—a item signifying courtship in this world—which she accepted while knowing the cultural significance. Her father has implicitly given his blessing for their relationship to develop. Jirou has officially asked her to become the Captain of his newly formed knight order, a role she has accepted with excitement.

Hetty: A former mercenary from a rival group whom Rebecca infiltrated as a spy. Despite their initial adversarial relationship, they became genuine friends. Hetty is one of the few people who knows Rebecca's true vocations and past. Their reunion is boisterous and familiar, falling back into a dynamic of friendly teasing and shared history.

Isaac: The former leader of the Scarlet Wedge. Rebecca held a deep, one-sided admiration for him, described as a "fan" or a "maiden in love." His death profoundly affected her, leading to her decision to retreat from the world and swear off romance.

Marina: Has taken on a mentorship role, teaching Marina horse-riding. Marina now respectfully refers to her as "Taichou-dono" (Captain).
