Taffeta

Taffeta is a crisp, smooth, and lustrous plain-woven fabric, traditionally silk but now also made from polyester or nylon, known for its elegant sheen, stiffness, and characteristic rustling sound (scroop). It's prized for formal wear like gowns and bridal dresses, as well as for structured clothing and home decor like curtains, due to its excellent shape retention and ability to hold volume. Key features include its smooth feel, lack of stretch, and tendency to show oil/dirt, requiring clean handling and specific care.
