Placer platinum is platinum found in riverbeds and gravel deposits, formed when platinum-bearing rocks erode and release dense metal grains. Like gold, it accumulates through natural gravity sorting and can be recovered by panning. Compared to gold, placer platinum is much rarer and harder, but its value is more volatile—while platinum has historically been worth more than gold, gold is often more expensive today due to its stability and role as a store of value.
