Dida Barbacro

Dida is a powerful and influential merchant who serves as the commander-in-chief of the Barbacro Trading Company, the largest weapons merchant in the empire. Introduced as a seemingly pompous and condescending merchant from the Imperial Capital, he is later revealed to be the uncle of Efta Solo and Hetty, and a major new player in the support of Diana Luna'Arbella's "Special Guidance." His arrival signals a shift from subtle manipulation to direct, overwhelming involvement from the upper echelons of the Solo-Barbacro alliance.

Appearance

Dida is a plump, young-looking man who appears to be in his twenties, a result of extensive use of expensive "de-aging" spirit stones. His true age is 54. He dresses in flamboyant, Shakespearean-style "inland clothing" that screams of his wealth and status: a gaudy gold-embroidered vest, a white dress shirt, blue striped pants, and an abundance of jingling accessories like necklaces and rings made of spirit stones. He is almost always accompanied by a strong scent of cologne and is escorted by a group of seven well-equipped, brawny warrior slaves, showcasing his immense wealth and need for protection.

Personality

Dida is arrogant, condescending, and possesses an overwhelming sense of superiority, particularly towards those he considers beneath him, such as merchants from "rural" areas like Erische. He is openly discriminatory, looking down on the Turk tribe and belittling those who cannot afford large groups of slaves. He is shrewd, cunning, and has a keen eye for valuable items, as demonstrated when he immediately recognized the true value of Jirou's velvet fabric.

Beneath his smug and often insulting exterior lies a sharp and ruthless businessman. He is not above using his wealth and influence to directly insert himself into situations to take control, as seen when he forced his way into leading the support for Diana's guidance. He is a man used to getting what he wants and has little patience for obstacles, including his rebellious niece, Hetty, who flees at the very sight of him. His stated goal is to "wrap things up within a month," indicating an aggressive, results-oriented approach that contrasts with Jephthah's more patient, fate-based strategy.

History

As the commander-in-chief of the Balbacro Trading Company, Dida is one of the most powerful merchants in the empire. Hearing about the Solo family's two-year-long support of Diana's guidance, he inserted himself into the project, stating he would "wrap things up within a month" and replacing the agent Jephthah had originally sent. He arrived in Erishe under the guise of sightseeing but was actively gathering information and making business deals, such as his purchase from Jirou. His official reunion with Jephthah at the guild marked his formal takeover of the guidance support operation.
