Mochi

Mochi (モチ) is a traditional Japanese food made from glutinous rice that has been steamed and pounded until it becomes smooth, stretchy, and chewy. It’s commonly enjoyed during celebrations such as New Year, but also appears year-round in sweets like daifuku or desserts filled with red bean paste. With its soft texture and mild flavor, mochi is loved for both its simplicity and its versatility in Japanese cuisine.
